Dracula Update: collecting the deconstructed

Some of you know about my Dracula project, how four years ago I had an idea, to craft a version of Dracula that would be Dracula: Deconstructed, a collection of ephemera and journals, sans only the phonographs (an impossibility in my small craft room). It’s been a long four years, but finally I am nearing completion on this project. I’m finishing up the telegrams at the moment.

This project took years of research to complete. I had to source telegram forms and bills of lading and train tickets and figure out the most likely route from whitby to hull to hamburg to…the imaginary hospital where Jonathan had brain fever. I worked on this project off and on all that time.

As I am a small person shop, I lack the resources of a proper publishing house. That said, a publishing house would never craft Dracula’s tomb as I have, a resting place for the novel (available for sale in the Shop).

With the vault and novel complete, back to Dracula: Deconstructed. Currently I’m recreating a period-accurate Bulgarian telegram, complete with envelope (on the opposite side). Sourcing this took a lot of time and effort, and a little bit of money, but I eventually succeeded. My only regret is that I have been unable to come up with a way to source and create period accurate stamps, so we’ll just have to muddle along without those.

My other ongoing project in the Shop is the attaché case belonging to Dr. van Helsing. I will be offering two different versions, one with a leather case and one with a leather-like paper. This case will hold all of the scattered pieces of ephemera I have created: Jonathan’s travelogue, his passport, Mina’s journal, Lucy’s diary, and so on.
